In a world where acts of kindness often stand as beacons of hope, there exists an extraordinary group of individuals who consistently go above and beyond to make a positive impact on the lives of others. These unsung heroes, our charity volunteers, form the very backbone of our organisation’s mission to create meaningful change and uplift those in need.
With their boundless dedication, selflessness, and unwavering commitment, these volunteers embody the true essence of compassion and community. On our blog today, we are thrilled to shine a spotlight on Tasnim, one of the brilliant and dedicated volunteers here at Quo Vadis Trust!
She explains how she got involved with volunteering at QVT, and how volunteering has helped her understand how mental health can impact everyone in one way or another…
Hi Tasnim, tell us about your volunteering role at QVT and how long have you been volunteering?
I have been volunteering at QVT since December 2022. My role is to help clients to carry out their work, and to encourage and motivate them to be productive etc
What inspired you to get involved?
I got to know about QVT through one of my course mates, who also used to be a volunteer here. I visited the QVT website and made some enquiries. I really like how things work around here. How they (QVT) motivate people to be independent and make their lives better. And I wanted to be a part of that, thats why I applied to be a volunteer for the charity.
What specific roles or tasks do you undertake as a volunteer? Can you describe a typical volunteering session for us?
I usually take part in 1-1 sessions with clients regarding helping them with job searches, managing mental health, budgeting etc. Sometimes I arrange group sessions, which includes art sessions, gardening or anything else that the clients like to take part in.
In what ways did volunteering for us enhance your understanding of mental health issues and the challenges faced by individuals dealing with them?
Volunteering for QVT helped me understand that there are so many different mental health issues and so many people are struggling. No matter what age people are, they are struggling with mental health issues. Volunteering gave me the opportunity to understand the challenges faced by the clients and how to help them.
Thanks Tasnim!
